Abdominal pain refers to the pain or discomfort that is felt in the part of the trunk below the ribs and above the pelvis. It originates from the organs within the abdomen region or the organs adjacent to the belly. It is usually caused by inflammation, distention of an organ or by the loss of blood supply to the organ. In case of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), the causes include contraction of the intestinal muscles or hyper-sensitivity to normal intestinal activities.
