Bone & soft tissue sarcoma
A sarcoma is a type of cancer that starts in tissues like bone or muscle. The main types of sarcomas are that of bones and tissues.
Soft tissue sarcomas can begin in soft tissues like fat, muscle, nerves, fibrous tissues, blood vessels and so on and it can be found in any part of the body. Usually, most of them start in the trunk, head and neck area, internal organs, the area in the abdominal cavity but sarcomas are not common tumors.
Research has stated that there are over 50 different types of soft tissue sarcoma. A few of them are listed below:
Adult fibrosarcoma usually affects the tissues in legs, arms or trunks. It is most common in people aged between 20 and 60 although it can happen to anybody, including infants.
Angiosarcoma usually starts in blood vessels or in lymph vessels. These may start in a part of the body that has been subjected to radiation treatment.
Angiosarcomas are sometimes seen in the breast after radiation therapy and in limbs with lymphedema.
Clear cell sarcoma is a rare cancer that often starts in tendons of the arms or legs. It has some features of malignant melanoma, under the microscope, a type of cancer that starts in pigment-producing skin cells. How cancers with these features start in parts of the body other than the skin is still unknown.
Alveolar soft-part sarcoma is also a rare cancer that most affects young adults, these tumors can commonly start in the legs.
