UROLOGICAL CANCER- TYPES
The symptoms of this condition depend on which organ has been affected, thus knowing the type is important.
Urological Cancer involves-
Urinary tract- the kidneys and the bladder
The prostate
The reproductive organs in men
Four main types of urologic cancer-
BLADDER CANCER: Usually grows in the lining of the bladder and is one of the most common types amongst men and women.
RENAL (KIDNEY) CANCER: This cancer mainly occurs within the kidney but can also affect the kidney that connects to the bladder (renal pelvis cancer).
TESTICULAR CANCER: Not very common, this cancer grows within the testes and affects less than 1% of men.
URETHRAL CANCER: Forming in the urethra, which is the tube that conducts urine from the bladder to the outside of the body. In men, the urethra travels through the penis and carries semen as well. It is quite rare and men are more at risk than women.
PENILE CANCER: Another very rare type of urological cancer, It affects the penis.
SYMPTOMS & SIGNS
As mentioned above, the signs and symptoms of urological cancer highly depend on the organ that is being affected and the structure. Depending on that, the signs of each may include-
BLADDER CANCER
The signs may include-
Blood in the urine
Problems with urination
Lower back pain
Overly frequent urination
Painful urination
PENILE CANCER
Penile cancer causes changes to the penis, the symptoms may include-
Blood at the tip of the penis
Color changes
Discharge with odor
Growths or sores
Irregular swelling
Pain
Rash or bumps under the foreskin
Swollen lymph nodes in the groin
Thickened skin
RENAL CANCER
Symptoms-
Anemia
Appetite loss
Blood in the urine
Enlarged veins (varicocele) near a testicle
Fatigue
High blood pressure
Lump on the side or back
Pain in the side or back
Swelling of the ankles and legs
Unexplained weight loss
TESTICULAR CANCER
The signs to be aware of-
Breast tenderness or growth (gynecomastia)
Changes in size or firmness of testicles
Dull ache in the groin
Fluid buildup in the scrotum
Pain in a testicle or the scrotum
Painless lump or swelling on either testicle
URETHRAL CANCER
Signs and symptoms include-
Bleeding from the urethra
Blood in the urine
Discharge
Enlarged lymph nodes in the groin
Interrupted urine flow
Lump in the perineum or penis
Cancer of any type could be life threatening if ignored. Thus it is important to be aware of signs. If any of the aforementioned symptoms appear it would be a wise decision to get yourself checked.
