COLON CANCER
A type of cancer that begins in the large intestine (colon) is called colon cancer. The final part of the digestive tract is the colon.
Colon cancer is most common in older people, but it can happen to anyone. Most of the time, it starts as small, benign (not cancerous) clumps of cells called polyps that form inside the colon. Some of these polyps may develop into colon cancer over time.
Colon cancer is sometimes called colorectal cancer, which is a term that combines colon cancer and rectal cancer, which begins in the rectum.
Signs and symptoms of colon cancer include:
A persistent change in your bowel habits, including diarrhea or constipation or a change in the consistency of your stool
Rectal bleeding or blood in your stool
Persistent abdominal discomfort, such as cramps, gas or pain
A feeling that your bowel doesn't empty completely
Weakness or fatigue
Unexplained weight loss
TREATMENT
If colon cancer develops, many treatments are available to help control it, including:
surgery,
radiation therapy
chemotherapy,
targeted therapy
Immunotherapy.
In the early stages of the disease, many people with colon cancer do not experience any symptoms at all. Depending on the size and location of the cancer in your large intestine, symptoms will likely vary.
