 Bladder cancer is a type of cancer that begins in the bladder — a balloon-shaped organ in the pelvic area that stores urine. Bladder cancer begins most often in the cells that line the inside of the bladder. Bladder cancer typically affects older adults, though it can occur at any age.


The great majority of bladder cancers are diagnosed at an early stage — when bladder cancer is highly treatable. However, even early-stage bladder cancer is likely to recur. SYMPTOMS

  • Blood or blood clots in the urine

  • Pain or burning sensation during urination

  • Frequent urination

  • Feeling the need to urinate many times throughout the night

  • Feeling the need to urinate, but not being able to pass urine

  • Lower back pain on 1 side of the body
