Implantable devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators are also used in arrhythmia surgery. Pacemakers are devices that help regulate the heartbeat by sending electrical impulses to the heart. Defibrillators, on the other hand, are used to deliver a shock to the heart to restore normal heart rhythm in cases of life-threatening arrhythmias.

Arrhythmia surgery is typically performed by a cardiac electrophysiologist, a doctor who specializes in the electrical activity of the heart. The procedure is usually done under anesthesia and requires a hospital stay of a few days.
