Androgen-deprivation therapy (hormonal therapy)
Since prostate disease development is driven by male sex chemicals called androgens, bringing down levels of these chemicals can assist with easing back the development of the malignant growth. Testosterone is the most prevalent androgen. In order to lower testosterone levels in the body, androgen-deprivation therapy (ADT), also known as hormonal therapy, is used either surgically (surgical castration) or medically (medical castration) to remove the testicles. The primary objective of lowering testosterone levels is more important than the choice of hormonal therapy.
